The production of the polyclonal antibodies takes just a few easy steps:
– Introducing the antigen (for example Occludin (OCLN)) to the organism that has functional Immune system. Those organisms are called hosts. Different type of hosts could be used such as Rabbit, Goat, Mouse, Sheep, guinea pigs, etc.
– Once the antigen is introduced into the host and antibodies formed (waiting period around 6 weeks) and a sample of blood is drawn. This sample contains polyclonal antibodies specific to the antigen Occludin (OCLN). This antigen could be species specific, there for the antibody would be Organism Species specific.
– Once isolated the polyclonal antibody undergoes to variety of purification technics such as Antigen-specific affinity chromatography followed by Protein A affinity chromatography, Protein G purified, etc.
